Grants
IREX
(International Research and Exchanges Board) has announced their
2004-2005 grant opportunities for U.S. scholars. IREX's scholar
programs are funded by the United States Department of State
Title VIII Program, the National Endowment for the Humanities,
John J. and Nancy Lee Roberts, and IREX's own Scholar Support
Fund.
The Caucasus Regional Policy Symposium. Deadline: December 1,
2003. IREX, in collaboration with the Woodrow Wilson Center for
International Scholars, will be administering a symposium to
bring together senior and junior U.S. scholars to discuss a variety
of political, economic, historical, and cultural topics related
to the Caucasus and its relationships with neighboring Russia,
Turkey, and Iran. Junior scholars will be chosen based on a national
competition. Applications must demonstrate a commitment to continued
study, research, and work with the countries of the Caucasus
region. The symposium is scheduled for Spring 2004 in the Washington,
D.C. area.
Short-Term Travel Grants. Deadline: February 1, 2004. Grants
of up to $3,000 for up to two months of independent or collaborative
research in Europe and Eurasia for postdoctoral scholars and
professionals with terminal degrees.
Successful projects must make a substantive contribution to knowledge
of the contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural
developments in the region and must demonstrate how such knowledge
is relevant to U.S. foreign policy.
IREX seeks qualified American experts to serve as peer review
selection committee members for its programs. For more details,
