Azeri Language
Azeri Classes - Washington, DC

Azeri classes have already begun this fall in Washington, D.C. at the Azerbaijan Trade and Cultural Center (ATCC). This is the first time that ATCC has offered language instruction.

They intend to continue offering these courses on a regular basis. Two Levels I and II are being offered from September 20 to February 3, 2005 (4.5 months, 72 hours). Class sessions are held in the evenings, two hours twice a week.

The courses emphasize grammar, reading and writing. Level I is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of Azeri. The course is being taught by Elchin Hajiyev who has taught Azeri for the U.S. State Department. Because of considerable interest, a new session is scheduled to start in October. The text "Elementary Azerbaijani" by Kurtulush Oztopchu is used as the primary text.

ATCC is located in Georgetown at 1212 Potomac Street, NW, Washington DC 20007. It is the center for the U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce which was founded in 1997.
