Egyptian Embassy
Youssef Ahmed El Sharkawy is the new
ambassador in Azerbaijan for the Embassy of the Arab Republic
of Egypt. He replaces Ms. Gehan Amin. His credentials were accepted
on October 4, 2004 in Baku. Ambassador Sharkawy obtained his
education in Economics and Political Science at Cairo University
and earned his Masters in Economic and Military Affairs at Brussels
University.
Currently, he is doing his PhD at Oxford University, UK. In addition
to Arabic, Ambassador Sharkawy also speaks English and French.
Before his appointment to Azerbaijan, he worked in various foreign
affairs departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including
the Information and Evaluation Department and the Department
of International Organizations. He was promoted to Head of the
Department of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in 2002.
He also has participated in diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa
(also accredited to the OAU Organization for African Unity
and the Economic Commission for Africa to the United Nations),
London, Brussels (also accredited to the European Union and NATO),
and Moscow (also accredited to Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan
and Georgia).
