Use of Building
Oil Baron period (before 1920): Ibrahimbeyov residence
Soviet period (1920-1991): Building was divided into a number of apartments where residents were made to share both kitchen and bathroom facilities. This was a very typical arrangement that began during the Bolshevik period. Sometimes large dining and living rooms were split and walls erected so that different families could occupy this space.
1991 to present: Establishment of Aristocrat Society on the third floor. The other floors are used by other companies.

Historical Features
The house originally belonged to the Ibrahimbeyov family (grandparents of Rustam and Magsud). Rustam is an Oscar-winning filmmaker. He wrote the screenplay for "Burnt by the Sun", directed by the well-known Russian filmmaker, Nikita Mikhalkov, which won the Oscar in 1995 for Best Foreign Film. Search at AZER.com.

Magsud is a short story writer and novelist as well as a Member of Parliament. Magsud also serves as Chairman of the Aristocrat Society of Azerbaijan, which has its office on the third floor of this residence.

Architectural Features
Although this building is not as elaborate as many of the others featured in these pages, there is a charming grace and beauty in the clarity of the designs, both in the stairway as well as the many rooms on each of the floors.

Of particular note are the various ceramic hand-painted fireplaces throughout the building. The main meeting room on the third floor has a beautiful ornate ceiling in tones of sand and pink.

Access
You need to know someone to gain access into this building as the door is locked. Access is not likely available for the casual visitor.
