Autumn 2006 (AI 14.3)
Autumn is the
season for brilliant orange-colored persimmons in Azerbaijan.
Azeris use the word "khurma" to identify both dates
and persimmons, though in some regions persimmons are called
"khirnik (or firnikh)" or "korolyok" (species
from Russia). Attractive and delicious as always, traditionally
persimmons were identified as helping to stop mild intestinal
bleeding according to Dr. Farid Alakbarli who specializes in
Arabic-script medieval medical manuscripts.
