Celebrating
the Olympics
"Azerbaijan
at the 27th Olympic Games - Sydney" celebrates the involvement
of Azerbaijan's athletes in the Olympics since 1952. During the
Soviet period, athletes competed under the umbrella of the Soviet
Union but were never able to gain recognition for the own republic.
It wasn't until 1992 at Barcelona, Spain that Azerbaijan raised
its own flag.
Of the 4,000 copies of the book that were published, many will
be taken to the games in Sydney in September to exchange with
other Olympic teams.
The National Olympic Committee and Ministry of Youth and Sports
organized this book, the first major "coffee-table"
edition produced in both Azeri Latin (not Cyrillic) and English.
