AGI Petroleum
Scholarships
The
American Geological Institute (AGI) has awarded academic scholarships
to four Azerbaijani petroleum geoscientists - Oktai Rahmanov,
Nigar Samadova, Mehti Yusifov, and Javid Zeynalov - to study
in the U.S. for the 2000-2001 academic year. The awards in AGI's
International Petroleum Geoscience Scholarship Program are made
possible through the financial support of ExxonMobil, Chevron
and Frontera Resources.
Scholarship awardees have received their diplomas in the Geosciences
from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and have career interests in
the petroleum industry. The AGI scholarship provides full support
for their study in the geological sciences at Texas A&M University
in Houston.
The scholars will have an opportunity for an additional six-week
internship at a company-sponsored office in the U.S. before returning
to Baku.
This is the fourth year that AGI, a non-profit federation of
35 geoscientific and professional associations, has coordinated
the International Petroleum Geoscience Scholarship Program in
Azerbaijan. Since 1997, it has awarded 12 scholarships to Azerbaijani
geoscientists. AGI works closely with Azerbaijani academic institutions
and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in identifying
highly qualified geoscience students for the program.
