Turan
Ragimov, 19, recently won Canada's prestigious Governor General's
Academic Award for graduating with the highest grade-point average
at his high school in Toronto. Only five students from the top
schools in the city received this award. Turan averaged 97 percent
in his courses at Northview Heights Secondary School, even though
he had just moved to Canada in March 1998. Turan will be studying
Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, and was offered
scholarships at two other major Canadian schools.
This young scholar was also selected as a winner of an "Aiming
for the Top" Tuition Scholarship, a $3,500 award bestowed
by The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities of Ontario.
The scholarship recognizes students who graduate from high school
with an outstanding grade point average and enroll in one of
the top universities in Canada.
