The
Reservoir Modeling Center (RMC) in Baku, opened in March 2000,
is designed to be a world-class center for reservoir optimization
and field development planning. The US $2.8 million project was
funded by the World Bank. SOCAR's RMC staff was trained in Norway
in modern evaluation techniques including seismic interpretation,
petrophysical evaluation, reservoir characterization, geological
modeling, reservoir simulation, reserves estimates and field
performance monitoring.
They have already completed a rehabilitation study of the shallow
water portion of the Gunashli oilfield, outlining alternative
strategies that could increase its recoverable reserves. A unique
production database for the Gunashli field has been established
to allow production performance monitoring of the different reservoirs,
fault blocks and individual wells. The structure of the database
can be used as a model for similar projects in other fields.
